Kindergarten
Building Foundations for Lifelong Faith and Learning
Our Philosophy
At Waverley Christian College Kindergarten we are dedicated to working with families and children to develop Christ-like character as we explore God’s world together.
We believe that children learn best through working with hands-on experiences based on real life engagement and explored through play-based activities. In response to this, educators use our kinder program to promote students to be independent, creative thinkers who have a passion for learning and develop a strong connection with their Creator God.
We believe that the most important principles in life are loving God and loving others. These are the foundational values of Waverley Christian College and govern all that we seek to be and do as we work and learn together. In dependence on the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, we will endeavour to be a school community that reflects His life and values.
First Steps
As the first step in formal learning, the program is designed to help children grow academically and spiritually, encouraging them to see education as part of their faith development. Children take part in daily prayer times, Bible lessons and are encouraged to practice Christian values in their day-to-day interactions with one another.
A key focus is PreLit, an evidence-based and engaging approach that explicitly teaches reading and related skills in a fun, interactive way during their first year of school. The Kindergarten week is thoughtfully structured into two and a half days, giving children the right balance between time at home and time at school, ensuring they develop confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning in a supportive, Christ-centred environment.
